iMac G4 Makeover
Alternative Motherboards
An Open Source Hardware/Firmware/Software Project

Overview
After looking at some of the available options a few decisions made themselves:
1) The new motherboard has to be fairly inexpensive otherwise we may as well just go buy a brand spanking new machine.
2) The new graphics needn't be too exciting as we are stuck with 10-year-old displays.
They were beautiful back then but today they are slow and low resolution.
3) It would be helpful if
the new motherboard fits, but of course it never will.
4) It must be low power as we're trying to use the existing power suppply (with mods).
Plus, we have a tiny enclosure to keep cool.
5) DVI out would be a plus, but there's always a workaround.
6) Hackintosh would be nice, but is a lower priority criteria.
In the meantime I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 with MacBuntu theme.

Here are the first two motherboards in mini-ITX or micro-ATX
format.
